On July 18, 2024, the St. Petersburg City Council voted on a landmark decision to approve the Historic Gas Plant District Redevelopment, a partnership between the City, the Tampa Bay Rays and Hines. Move than $6 billion will be invested over a 20 year period and will be the largest development project in Tampa Bay’s history. Phase 1 of the development is slated to commence in 2025 with estimated completion in early 2028 for the opening crack of the bats in the 2028 MLB season in the new Rays 30,000 seat ballpark.
