A long-awaited mixed-use development in the heart of St. Pete's EDGE District is about to hit a major construction milestone.

St. Petersburg residents and visitors will soon have 540 much-needed new parking spaces as construction progresses on a $200 million project.

​The St. Petersburg City Council narrowly approved a deal Thursday that would build a $1.3 billion stadium for the Tampa Bay Rays and a city-redefining project for the 65 acres around it called the Historic Gas Plant District.

​Shovels have officially hit the ground on a long-awaited mixed-use development planned for downtown St. Petersburg’s EDGE District. On Wednesday, Ellison Construction began construction on The Central, previously named Orange Station, at 1301 Central Avenue. ​

​The redevelopment plans for St. Petersburg’s former police headquarters have been overhauled to scrap condos, double its office space, and bring in an Autograph Collection boutique hotel.
